Achieving lasting recovery

Achieving lasting recovery is especially relevant to addiction. Many people who struggle with addiction can make changes; its maintaining them that they struggle with. Put simply; Its not always the stopping that’s difficult; its staying stopped that’s  difficult. The chances of  achieving lasting recovery can be greatly improved by understanding and being supported through the process of change.

One of the biggest misunderstandings I often see is that people see change as an event, not a process. They also often struggle to identify how addictive thinking can distort the change process, further complicating the task of making and maintaining change.

It was considering the lack of knowledge that people have around the change process that promoted me to write down some of the information that clients and other therapists and counsellors have found helpful in the past in relation to the process of change. I made it available on our main site here.

One clients experience …

After years of trying and failing to get control of my cocaine addiction, i finally reached a point where i knew i needed help. I can whole heartily say reaching out and getting therapy/counselling from Andrew  was one of the best decisions i have ever made and its changed my life. I now understand my addiction and more importantly i have a changed mind set and the tools to help me never use again. For the first time in what feels like forever i can confidently say i am now in control. Me and my family can not thank him enough.
